About Steve Poland: Risk Taker
I’m a serial (web) entrepreneur and innovator. Formerly a TechCrunch writer that has a passion for web start-ups, viral marketing and the monetization aspect of web apps/sites.
Latest start-up launching soon (Summer 2010): ifluencer
My 12-year background in the web consists of starting several web start-ups, founding an Internet Marketing firm, and working in every role (PM, Sales, BizDev, etc) at five different web development firms, where I was apart of the dev/launch of hundreds of websites/apps.
I have a clear understanding of web technologies and hold a B.S. Management from Purdue University (Go Boilers!). I have lived all over the USA, but currently reside in my hometown of Buffalo, NY where it has been a painstaking road to win any national sports championship
I co-founded the organization of BarCamp Buffalo. In my spare time, I can be found at the gym, at a concert, having a good time, or throwing an annual New Year’s Eve party.
If you’re an entrepreneur seeking some advice, drop me an email — I’d love to help if I can.

Some proud (and unproud) moments of my life on the bleeding edge of technology:
- Back in March 2007 I saw Twitter as a huge opportunity. I was at SXSW when it was first “catching”… I then signed up for over 1,100 twitter username accounts — I viewed it like the domain rush of 1995
- I am the #1 organic result on Google for ‘make money on twitter‘.
- I launched the first bots on Twitter [they don't run anymore]
- I was the 1st spammer on Twitter.
- I have also posted tons of ideas for Twitter apps.
