On May 4, we'll be doing our 3rd BarCamp in Buffalo -- we're still learning. The biggest problem has been satisfying the geeks and the business/marketing crowd. A presentation on JQuery is great to the geeks, but a bit too techy for the non-programmers.

A few of us just went to Rochester's latest BarCamp this past Saturday, we picked up some tips.

We're going to do two presentations at all times. One side of the room will be a geeky presentation, the other side will be a non-technical presentation. In future if we can sustain it, we'll have 3 presentations going on at once. This provides everyone with options -- if they find they don't like a presentation, they can go over to the other one.

We will have a prominent big white paper on the wall that'll have each time slot broken out. We'll make them 15-min slots.

Please start RSVP'ing to the Facebook event page, and then please put on the wiki what your presentation will be on. I know we haven't enforced this, but we're going to start -- everyone in attendance needs to be presenting on something. It can be anything, literally! Some new software you're using to be more productive; some new programming library you've messed with; some blog post you read that could start an interesting discussion; how to make the perfect Mojito; etc!

Those who signup on the wiki page with their presentation will get first dibs on the time slots. By stating what you're going to present on, people that will be attending can look forward to what you'll be presenting on -- increasing your visibility to meeting some new people with similar interests.

Also, I spoke with Pearl Street -- we're still on the 2nd floor, but they are going to try to make it quieter in the connected room. I also mentioned that the bartender disappears sometimes (apparently he's grabbing food orders), so they are going to try to work on it being better staffed.

May 4 agenda: 6-7pm registration/drinking/networking/buy food if you want. 7pm we'll start the presentations.

Our theme for May 4 is 'social media' -- attendees have listed some speaking topic suggestions they'd like to hear about under "Topic Suggestions" here:
http://barcamp.org/BarCampBuffalo

Please post what you'll be speaking on here:

Please RSVP to BarCamp 3, here:
