Buffalo Job Sought: Administrative Assistant, Customer Service Rep, Travel Agent, Insurance Agent

My Mom is seeking a job. Now before you take me as being biased because I’m her son, let me tell you — she’s an excellent(!) worker. Strong work ethic, loyal to employers, rarely calls in sick, eager to answer the phone, eager to help others, works well in an office environment.

She’s been a travel agent for awhile, but as the Internet has changed the travel industry — agencies have been drying up. She loves travel, but is ready to switch industries. She worked for an Insurance Agency for a few months over the summer, but “first in, first out” (FIFO) for layoffs as that agency was hit with the current economic crisis. But she learned quite a lot regarding Insurance.

She’s primed for customer service as well. And she’d excel as an Administrative Assistant / Office Manager — she’s versed in MS Word, MS Excel, the Internet, taking care of travel accommodations, managing a calendar (for one or multiple executives), etc. She’s a multi-tasker, well-organized, and not someone that gets stressed.

She’s very well read, reads the newspaper everyday, and should be on Jeopardy! She could work well as an online Community Manager at a travel website, or blogging/writing about travel.

My Mom’s resume can be found here. Her email address is in the resume.

It’s an employer’s market right now — lots of people are looking for jobs and as an employer, you have your pick. I guarantee this is a great choice.

If you know of any employers in the Buffalo NY region that are hiring, please let her know or myself. Referrals are of course the best method of finding a job. Please contact me with any open jobs you’re aware of that may fit her background/objective.

    Steve:

Has your Mom considered starting her own Virtual Assistant business? She has a variety of skills and could have a variety of clients. Plus she would not have to work exclusively in Buffalo. She could have clients anywhere in the world.

There are many, many sites that provide information on becoming a Virtual Assistant. Two sites that I highly recommend is http://www.VAnetworking.com/become-a-virtual-assistant.htm and http://www.ivaa.org.

I wish your Mom alot of success.

A couple of years ago, I was looking for a reliable travel agent to book a cruise. I connected to Steve, who connected me to his mother. Working with her was fantastic! She took care of all the details before I could ask. If I were in the Buffalo area, I’d hire her.
