FUN: List Your Domains - What Ideas Do We Get
By Steve Poland • February 25, 2007
Just a little fun for the weekend. I’m going to list out my domains that are currently not used — and feel free to leave comments on what you think they’d be good for; or if they give you any ideas.
Feel free to share your domains here too — and others will comment on any ideas they might have.
Just another exercise to brainstorm and get idea flow going.
Back in about 1996 or 1997, I convinced one of my close friends (and now professional colleague) to acquire the domain ‘didd.com’. Thus, basically ‘digg’ with the g’s mirrored upside down (but digg wasn’t around). Anyhow, ‘didd.com’ — what ideas do you have for that (given what we know these days)?
OK - here are my unused domains (possibly for sale too) (the real crap are trimmed from list):
ANYTHINGY.COM
EVERYTHINGY.COM
INSECONDS.COM
NUSED.COM - “new… used.. ‘nused’”
VYOUS.COM - “you… view … ‘your views’”
BUYSELLNEW.COM
BUYSELLNEWUSED.COM
BUYSELLUSEDNEW.COM
ABOUTCODES.COM
CLICKLATER.COM
COLLEGECRIBS.COM
HYPERTEXTREALITY.COM
IFANCY.NET
IMPULSEINTERACTION.COM
IMPULSEINTERACTIONS.COM
LIKELOVEANDHATE.COM
LIKELOVEORHATE.COM
LOVELIKEANDHATE.COM
LOVELIKEORHATE.COM

ONEDAYOFFAME.COM
RAFFLEFRENZY.COM

Got something to say?

There’s a new feature in Visual Studio 2005 that allows you to save and easily access your most frequently used pieces of code. I could see sharemy.dot becoming a site where .NET develoers could share their favorite code snippets and discover new ones. You’d need a killer search engine or social filtering system, but could differentiate from other code-sharing sites by allowing users to easily save snippets in the correct directory so the snippet would instantly show up in the Visual Studio environment.
youclips.com/uclips.com seem particularly well suited to a video sharing site specifically decided for cell phone videos
collegecribs.com - how to pimp out your dorm room? discussion/blog/tips/etc. to that effect (monetize with affiliate programs… art.com etc.), contests for best room, etc.
A sampling of a few of my unused:
Administr8.com
CreativeRoster.com
Flashamajig.com
ForumGFX.com
ForumTrack.com
ModMakers.com
ProfileBlogs.com
ReviewTrack.com
Dezvo.us (as in ‘ren.dezvo.us’)
A very small sampling. Crap withheld, and domains I actually have plans in development for, withheld.
inseconds.com or lovelikeorhate.com - a dating site based on some compatibility theories outlined by Malcolm Gladwell in Blink (and elsewhere). The basic idea is instead of finding a soulmate by browsing photos and horoscope details, users could find matches based on their subconscious similarities.
Users would be shown a rapid series of pictures, text, music snippets, etc.. and would have to 5 seconds to give a knee-jerk love it/hate it response. After completing the test, users would be shown potential dates who gave the same responses. Users could also invite their friends to take the test and see what their “compatibility percentage” is. This is also simple enough to do via cell phone or as a viral MySpace widget as well.
@Kevin - love the thoughts; could be additions/changes to this idea.
Ha, nice. Just discovered the blog this morning and had been working my way backwards…still in the mid-20ies!
I had an idea a while back called ‘Idea IPO’ that was like a stock exchange simulation, only users would invest in ideas instead of companies. You’d get a set amount of fake dollars to invest, and once you bought shares of an idea you’d be allowed to see who else had invested in that idea and work as a team to promote the idea on the site (or ideally, work with other entrpeneurs/devs to build it out). The site could keep score of the “investors” who had the best returns for the month and give out t-shirts, etc.. to the winners.
Again, love the site, great to have a place to geek out with other idea junkies.
Kevin, have you seen the stuff from ... ?
And re:the Idea IPO, have you seen Cambrian House?
Hey Steve.
This post is the perfect example for a plugin idea I’ve been tossing around my yellow pads (and have yet to find out there, so if someone has seen evidence of it, or knows it exists, please share!): being able to comment on others comments.
Some forums applications effect this by insetting the comment of a comment like an indented list entry. I suppose it could get hairy from a theme’s layout perspective, but the theme design could probably shut that down and force a width restriction on how far inset the comments could go.
A really good plugin design could simply have an optional setting that gave the site admin a choice of how many levels to allow comment commenting. Alas, I can manipulate the heck out of it if someone can write it up

Some I’ve owned in the past:
)
PocketIsland.com,.net,.org
PamelaFru___.com (ex-girlfriend I was trying to eeeMpress! name deliberately not finished in case she should beat me up)
AnotherExGirlfriend.com (see previous list entry
OneMoreEx.com (You’d think I’d learn, but I really did this THREE TIMES argh
DrinkMoreMartinis.com: I’d still like to do something with this, but just so many other things “need” to come first, and so much proof of concept!
RichWorldPoorWorld.com: For all the Rich Dad fans out there.
Can’t wait to see more of your URL’s and the ideas that spawned them.

GOOD TIMES..
These are mine :-
... - initially having an idea of buying lottery online for free while the jackpot is sponsored by advertiser advertising on the pixel and also the lottery buyer themself ( unlike pixel lotto , each lottery buyer is entitled to pick 4 numbers ). How this works is , lottery buyer can each setup a jackpot. The amount of the jackpot is depend on the number of people buying for the jackpot. The more the lottery buyer, the bigger the jackpot is. In the end of the jackpot period, we as the computer/admin and the judge will generate a set of numbers consisting 4 digits. The 90% of the jackpot will go to the winner, the remaining 10% will be share equally among the jackpot starter and the Admin (i.e. us ). Not everyone can be the jackpot starter. You need to buy the first 50 jackpot coupons. Meaning you need to invest in the jackpot, in order for others to join in your jackpot.
I have this idea, but can’t seems to work it out. Feel free to give comment and start it out.
... - a gaming site that matchmake gamers online thru live game play. Each match is involved with gaming money. This idea has existed since long, especially hot in Asia country.
I have decided to let it pass on.
... - same concept as above, just that it match make soccer peer 2 peer gamblers. Each players place their bets on a ticket waiting to be snatched by the others.
Work half way, give up, due to the gambling licencing issue.
... - just registered less than a week. Suppose to be an investing blog + venture capital firm
Dunno how to start a venture capital firm.
... - initially was my self blogging site that blogs about things that I download and kept in my desktop. Mostly are warez ( dun mean to practise illegal usage of pirated software ); just trying out the software. It is a site that sell original software as well. Of course, if you like what you used, buy the original.
Got shut down by the web hosting company. I still can’t get the business model doing warez blogging.
... - suppose to be something like paypal.com. But now the idea has been abandoned. Looking forward to the idea of building an online money borrowing site.
Passed on.
Anyway, I hope with the blog here, we can all work out some idea, and spawn from it?
What you think, Mr. Poland?
3 domains that I like from Mr. Poland :-
...
... / ...
...
These are just my thoughts.
Here’s my list..
diggriver.mobi
nytimesriver.mobi
paulstamatiou.com
pstam.com
limeprint.com
top100blogger.com (now expired)
collegepartyfinder.com
and 2 others I’d rather not make public
TechJerky.com sounds ideal as a highly selective database of open source projects which have matured and got old while retaining their usefulness and even becoming better and tastier than the original. Just like beef jerky.
A repository of chewy old software.
My have a domain (or set of domains) that I think have potential.
...
...
I’m interested to hear what ideas others have for this domain.
The ideas I’ve been tossing around involve a ‘distributed forum application’ or ‘distributed conversation’ where multiple bloggers could join a single converssation, but each of their comments would be kept on their own site. Each converssation would obviously be made into an RSS feed and the converssations could be made into widgets for each other to place on their site. Visitors could rate, comment, join in on the converssations as well. Converssations could be open (where anyone could join in) or moderated (where the creator would have to allow people to join).
Here are few of my thoughts:
ANYTHINGY.COM –> online auction site
EVERYTHINGY.COM –> online auction site
ABOUTCODES.COM –> Blog to discuss symbolism, codes, puzzles, etc. Builds upon recent Da Vinci Code craze.
CLICKLATER.COM –> I often come across websites I want to check out but later. I don’t really like del.icio.us or other social bookmarking tools.
COLLEGECRIBS.COM –> pictures of college dorm rooms; no people–just rooms
OCEANROCK.COM –> Sounds like an Indie band.
SHAREMY.NET –> Sounds like another Facebook.
SUPPORTQUESTIONS.NET –> A site to post technical questions and for professionals to answer.
YOUCLIPS.COM –> Sounds like a YouTube.
UCLIPS.COM –> Sounds like a YouTube.
socialplane.com
shortflip.com
chatcreator.com -> already has a chat widget on it
For socialplane.com I’m thinking of doing a nice mash up of digg, wikipedia, myspace, etc. where everything is a user generated content item that’s editable by the masses. Everything is rated on as well. What do you guys think?
Here’s my list..
gotgym.com - coming soon…
starbuckster.com - think social networking using starbucks as a hub….plus a nice cease and desist letter
Code is also used to power starbuckster
zabongo.com - enough vowels to be a bonified web 2.0 site, I’ve got a great idea and poc for this one involving wireless social networking. In fact it is near identical to an idea posted on this blog a could weeks ago, and it works great
hotbarista.com - think viral marketing for starbuckster…cell phone camera pics of your favorite coffee makers….
geekinsurance.com/geekinsure.com - self explanatory
apesquad.com - friends don’t let friends buy domains drunk….
lab45.com - my old consulting site
I don’t have a big list. Here goes which i hold right now.
ExpertsHeaven.com –> Experts Heaven is an unique place were a experts can learn for their quest, create a place to share their quest and invent their quest! Experts Heaven is an unique solution for all tomorrows experts. A community for experts by experts.
Comments are welcome…
endzwell.com - “All’s well that Ends well.” I tried this as an e-retailer for board games and cigars, but that didn’t do much. No idea what it could be used for, but I find i somewhat catchy. It could probably be used for darn near anything.
lifehoop.com - Similarly could be used for anything from organizational tools (to do lists) to a health and wellness site.
qwvr.com - Pronounced “quiver”, it could be used for storage or tagging or something, a la putting your arrows in a quiver.
techstbooks.com - pronounced “textbooks.” Retailer of books or audio books or a tech blog, like I currently have at techstbooks.wordpress.com
@rulepark — lottery stuff has many laws in this country that the gov’t are sticklers about. Tread carefully on anything related to lottery/sweepstakes/raffles.
@matt — geekinsurance; might be able to establish a niche within the geeks online [digg’ers, slashdot’ers, etc]. Work some affiliate marketing programs.
@hunter — socialplane, can you explain your idea further? not understanding you.
wikidater.com - a wiki-based dating site, maybe have your friends edit/add to your profile to say how great you are and/or have people who have dated the person rate/review them.
freckL.com - I made a social bookmarking site for people, similar to del.icio.us with features specifically for rating and linking to profile pages on social networks and dating sites, I have not had time to market it.
A couple of my thoughts…
- oceanrock.com - brings to mind some kind of service involving concerts on the beach or “concert cruises”… perhaps a booking and event notification site???
- clicklater.com - makes me think of some kind of bookmarking service for links I’d like to come back to and click later…
And here a few of my own domains…
mindbackup.com
thoughtblogs.com
mypersonalradio.com
thoughtstreamer.com
picturefiler.com
