It would be fun to be able to create the video right on the site itself. Could do a timeline-based flash interface similar to iMovie or Windows Movie Maker with a ton of stock clips built in and an option to pull in external clips (from your hard drive, cell phone, YouTube, etc..). This could give the site stickiness and allow for easier pull-through of casual browsers or stumblers.

I know there have been a few contests along the lines of "Produce a video for your favorite band." I think Madonna did it back in the day on MTV and Ok Go did it on YouTube recently. I don't spend a as much time on YouTube as I once did, but it seems like they haven't really tried to tap into the music market yet, not that I've noticed anyway.

This might be a candidate for one of those site domains: YouClips.com (or uClips.com).

What about this as a section of the site: mp3 B-side
Where the site visitors could do all the above mentioned voting/rating of submitted vid's, and then in an attempt to generate revenue both for the business and for the bands/video producers, if a site visitor buys a one mp3 they get the full length, high quality video to go along with it. Heck, even have sales and specials that bundle a second track/clip with the package for no extra cost. Artists get more exposure, and customer gets more value.

And don't forget this idea easily gets applied to any music genre. I can still remember back in the days of skiing when I'd ride up the lifts listening to (cough)cassette(/cough) music (understand that I'm an easy going, smooth jazz, amongst other "easy" music kind of guy).

On the run up, I'd be listening to the music, and just make up great lyrics for it. The backdrop of the snow covered mountains, even at that time had me thinking in a TS's way: "how cool would it be to make music videos where I added words to music songs, and created a mainstream style video?"

If this one launches, I may just be able to do that yet!
