Web2.0forsale.com Launches - Sell Web 2.0 Websites
By Steve Poland • April 9, 2007
I have launched a new website, Web2.0forsale.com, focused on the buying/selling of “Web 2.0″ websites. Feel free to also sell just programming code, prototypes, domain names, or other related products/services. You can also post ‘wanted’ ads here.
Web 2.0 companies are cheaper and faster to build — and there’s already been a bunch for sale, but I think there’s a ton more (particularly “hobby” projects by students) to come. The price for posting a listing is $10 for 30-days, which is reasonable enough so that anyone should be able to post their creation. Also, as a buyer or simply someone with curiosity, you can snag the RSS feed to keep updated on the latest postings.
There is also an affiliate program, so that if you run a “Web 2.0″ blog, you can grab the widget of latest listings, and if someone comes to Web2.0forsale.com through you and creates their own listing for $10, then you get a $5 commission. I’m hoping bloggers will add this widget to their websites and help spread the word, so that this can become a helpful resource for connecting buyers with sellers.
Note to Sellers: Specify URL, dev details (PHP? .NET?), web stats (# of users, uniques or pageviews), what’s included (any post-sale support?), & why you’re selling (was a hobby? needs marketing dollars?).
The domain is flexible, so if “Web 3.0″ ever occurs, I’m ready for it ![]()

Got something to say?

Interesting idea; I’ve seen several bloggers discuss something similar (was it Om?). Ah, I can’t remember.
Anyway, with the number of eBay sellouts, I think this might be of value to at least a few people… A problem-specific service is always better than one that tries to do everything.
Great launch - I was thinking of working on something like this, especially after Mike Arrington mentioned the need. Hope it works out for you!
great concept. where is the widget?
Grab it in the header — you have to become an affiliate of the service, then grab the widget.
Sounds like a neat idea. Hopefully it will focus on high-quality listings and differentiate itself from other similar services, such as SitePoint’s marketplace.
Perhaps a “make me sell” option could be a killer feature. Zillow has a “make me sell” option that seems very promising.
Very interesting site. I have used SitePoint.com’s marketplace a few times. That is probably the best palce to buy and sell websites currently. But, this niche market should be a huge success.
Often people will show some numbers from a web log analyzer for the traffic levels (as you mentioned in your Note to sellers). However, it might be optimal to have the sellers use a third party tracker like GoStats.com with viewable stats to have “audited” figures.
but what if I want to see a web2.1 site?
